Description
Terbinafine is a potent antifungal agent from the allylamine class, primarily used to treat dermatophyte infections such as athlete’s foot, ringworm, and jock itch. It works by inhibiting the enzyme squalene epoxidase, which is involved in the biosynthesis of ergosterol, an essential component of fungal cell membranes. By blocking this process, terbinafine disrupts fungal cell membranes, leading to cell death. Terbinafine is available in both topical and oral formulations for the treatment of superficial and systemic fungal infections.
