Faropenam

Description

Faropenem is a broad-spectrum antibiotic belonging to the penem class, which is a subclass of beta-lactam antibiotics. It is used primarily for the treatment of infections caused by susceptible microorganisms. Faropenem works by inhibiting the bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to the destruction of the bacteria. It is commonly used in treating infections of the respiratory tract, urinary tract, skin, and soft tissues, as well as intra-abdominal infections.

Faropenem is typically administered orally, and it is absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract, where it exerts its therapeutic effects by inhibiting the action of enzymes essential for bacterial cell wall formation. This makes it effective against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.

While similar to other beta-lactam antibiotics, Faropenem has a relatively broad spectrum of activity and is less prone to degradation by beta-lactamases, enzymes that many bacteria produce to resist beta-lactam antibiotics. This gives it some degree of resistance against beta-lactamase-producing pathogens.
