Description

Artesunate is an antimalarial drug derived from artemisinin, which is used to treat severe Plasmodium falciparum malaria and other forms of malaria. It is known for its rapid action in clearing the parasite from the bloodstream and is commonly used in parenteral (injectable) therapy for severe cases. Artesunate is more effective and less toxic than some other treatments, and it is part of the artemisinin-based combination therapies (ACTs).
